How BluePhone works in 39 seconds
Watch how your own UK 01/02 number connects incoming prison calls to the BluePhone app. The prison decides whether to approve your number.
Video transcript
Someone you love in prison? Every minute costs them credit.
On weekdays, a call to a mobile costs five and a half pence a minute. To a landline number, 2.48. BluePhone gives you a UK landline number that rings in the BluePhone app, over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
It’s for incoming calls only. Your number is subject to prison approval. If it’s approved, their calls ring in your app.
It’s £15 a month, or £149 a year, saving £31. Prison call credit is paid separately.
Available on iPhone and Android. See plans at bluephone.co.uk.
About the figures in the video
The 5.50p mobile and 2.48p landline figures are weekday per-minute tariffs for public-sector prisons in England and Wales. Weekend rates are 3.60p and 2.20p respectively, and a 10p minimum charge applies per call. Rates and availability can differ elsewhere. BluePhone does not set the prison’s charges.
The annual subscription saving is £180 − £149 = £31, compared with twelve £15 monthly payments. This is separate from any saving on the prisoner’s call credit.
