About BluePhone UK

BluePhone UK is a UK virtual landline number provider founded in 2026, registered in the Netherlands (KVK 91424399). We assign UK geographic phone numbers and deliver incoming calls via app to families anywhere in the world.

Mission

BluePhone exists to make it easier and cheaper for families to stay in contact with people in UK prisons. UK prisons charge over twice as much per minute for calls to mobile numbers as they do for calls to landlines. Many families — particularly those living abroad — do not have a UK landline. BluePhone bridges that gap by providing a UK number that works on a smartphone, wherever the family is.

The mission is straightforward: reduce barriers to family contact during one of the most difficult periods a family can go through.

How It Started

The founder's cousin was remanded in a UK prison. The family, based in the Netherlands, was receiving calls on their Dutch mobile number — which meant the prisoner was spending twice as much credit per call as would be needed for a UK landline number. The family investigated options: physical BT lines require a UK address, SIP configurations are technically complex, and the existing services designed for this purpose had various limitations.

BluePhone was built to solve this specific problem: a simple, app-based UK landline number for families who are not in the UK.

Telnyx — carrier-grade VoIP and SIP infrastructure; UK DID numbers and call routing
Firebase (Google Cloud europe-west1) — user accounts, call logs, subscription data; EU-hosted
Stripe — payment processing (monthly and annual subscriptions)
React Native / Expo — iOS and Android mobile app
Apple PushKit / Google FCM — push notifications to deliver calls to locked devices

The app uses CallKit on iOS to present incoming calls as native full-screen call interfaces, even when the phone is locked or the app is closed.
